Eija-Liisa Ahtila, born in 1959 in Finland, lives in Helsinki. Participation in the Venice Biennale 1999, 2005 and 2009. In the splitscreen version of her installation, Eija-Liisa Ahtila reconstructs one of the central motives of Christian iconography: the annunciation. Based on the Gospel of Saint Lucas and paintings of the annunciation in which artists have represented their visions of this episode of the Gospel over several centuries, the film transposes the biblical miracle into the present day.
