Program 2020

KINO DER KUNST 2020 with a high profile program

The edition 2020 will be held from October 27 to November 1 in Munich’s theaters and museums.

About 40 films from nearly 30 countries take part in the International Competition dedicated to the general theme of Forbidden Beauty. Among them are new works by Matthew Barney, Clément Cogitore, Isaac Julien or Mika Rottenberg.
The winners of the two main awards of 10.000 Euros each are chosen by an international jury from the art and movie worlds.
A project pitch award for European art and film students will be held in public. Espace Louis Vuitton Munich donates an award for a cross-disciplinary oeuvre. An international symposium is dedicated to “The Art of the Moving Image in Digital Times”, discussing the consequences of Covid19 on the art market, distribution and museum or collector strategies. The symposium will be streamed live (kinoderkunst.de/online-events).

Besides the live Q&A, there will be videotaped artist talks in the Ernst von Siemens Forum der Pinakothek der Moderne (in cooperation with the Museum Brandhorst).
In addition to the festival center with screenings in the theaters of the Munich University for Film and Television (HFF Munich), the arthouse cinemas Theatiner Filmkunst and City Kinos will participate as attractive venues.
