KINO DER KUNST was a worldwide unique combination of film festival and art exhibition. It was invented 2012 Heinz Peter Schwerfel, art critic and documentary filmmaker, and existed from 2013 to 2020. Outstanding cinematic works by visual artists were shown in a highly endowed international competition. Special programs, artist talks and multi-channel installations completed the film program.
KINO DER KUNST investigated the contemporary connection between visual art and cinema; its programmatic focus lied on how cinematographic artists approach fiction and narration. The international competition presented cinematic works in which artists apply formal innovation and a highly aesthetic visual language without losing sight of the serious issues of our time.
