AMIRA CASAR, JURYPRESIDENT.  She studied drama at the Conservatoire National de Paris, she has worked internationally with directors such as Carlos Saura, in Werner Schroeter’s “Nuit de chien”, Catherine Breillat’s “Anatomy of Hell”, the Quay Brothers “The Pianotuner of Earthquakes”, the Larrieu Brothers “Peindre ou faire l’amour”, Guy Maddin, Eran Riklis, Arnaud des Pallières. She collaborated with Sophie Calle for the Venice Biennale in “Prenez soin de vous”. She won the Best Actress Prize for her portrayal of the surrealist artist Dora Maar in “La femme qui pleure au chapeau rouge”. CINDY SHERMAN, born in 1954 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, is counted among the most influential artists of today. Upon graduating from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1976, Sherman relocated to New York City where she began making the seminal Untitled Film Stills. DEFNE AYAS, born in 1976, is the Director and Curator of Witte de With, Center for Contemporary Art. Before this appointment, Ayas worked in Shanghai as a director of programs for Arthub Asia and as an art history faculty member at NYU in Shanghai. Since 2005, Ayas has been a curator of PERFORMA, where she remains curator-at-large. ISAAC JULIEN, born in 1960 in London, is a Turner Prize nominated artist and filmmaker, known for his seminal film Looking for Langston (1989). Young Soul Rebels won the Cannes Semaine de la Critique Prize in 1991. Baltimore won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cologne Kunstfilmbiennale in 2003. Julien’s multi-screen installation works have been exhibited worldwide including a solo show at Centre Pompidou (2005).
