With his company Ballet of Difference, based at Schauspiel Köln and deeply rooted in Munich, the U.S. choreographer Richard Siegal works on hybrid forms in which not only different art disciplines but also aesthetic and scientific perspectives interpenetrate. In his work NEW OCEAN, for example, Siegal integrates a sculptural approach of dancing bodies together with ecological questions about global warming into a mathematical choreographic system. For the Pinakothek der Moderne, Richard Siegal is working on a choreographic form that actively engages the bodies of the dancers in a dialogue with the architecture and the sculpture HOWL by artist Anish Kapoor.
The recipient of some of the most coveted art awards and high civilian honors, Anish Kapoor is one of the world’s most influential contemporary sculptors; Richard Siegal’s Ballet of Difference sets the standard for diversity, relevance, and enthusiastic audience acceptance.
